Wifi is free all over Taiwan, 1M register

More than one million people registered on Taiwan's government-backed free "iTaiwan" wireless network, with subscriptions averaging 2,000 per day.

The Research, Development and Evaluation Commission said the free indoor service since 2011 had been used more than 12 million times as of end-December.

It said the service has nearly 4,000 hotspots around Taiwan, Taiwan's Central News Agency quoted the commission as saying.

CNA said the highest number of connections was recorded at railway stations, Taichung Airport, other public transportation facilities and tourist sites.

It added high-bandwidth network traffic was heavy at post offices, libraries and hospitals.

Most of the hotspots are located in government buildings and public areas, and extend to outlying islands and remote areas.  — ELR, GMA News
