Samsung confirms Galaxy S4 launch on March 14

Samsung fans, mark March 14 on your calendars: that's when the Korean electronics giant is to take the wraps off its new Galaxy S4 flagship smartphone.

Tech site CNET reported it has confirmed with a "high-level executive" of Samsung that the Galaxy S4 will debut at a "Samsung Unpacked" event in New York for March 14.

"Indeed, Samsung's tease will likely overshadow many of the other announcements at Mobile World Congress, which like the Consumer Electronics Show has seen its relevance diminish as the major players opt for their own announcements. HTC last week debuted its flagship One smartphone at its own global event in London and New York," it said.

CNET also quoted Samsung as saying it may embed its new security software, dubbed Knox, into the Galaxy S4.

The Galaxy S4 is rumored to sport an eight-core Exynos processor, a separate eight-core graphics processing unit, a 4.99-inch SuperAmoled display, and 2GB of RAM.

It is also reported to have a 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capability, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and the latest version of Android, 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Last year, CNET noted the Galaxy S3 came out as a "true rival" for Apple's iPhone. — TJD, GMA News
