LEGO robotics kit powered by Raspberry Pi gets crowdsourced funding

The Raspberry Pi, the credit card-sized computer built to teach computer science, is about to get a lot more fun with a spiffy LEGO body.

 

Dubbed BrickPi, the robot is a creation of Dexter Industries, which builds "educational robotic stuff" as well as sensors for LEGO's Mindstorms series.

"(W)e hope the BrickPi, regardless of who's making and selling it, makes kids smarter and opens up the world of robotics and computers to them," Dexter Industries said on its Kickstarter page.

 

It said it is keeping the design of the robot - which includes a BrickPi board and case - open so people could "copy this, and make it better."

 

Dexter said its Kickstarter campaign for the product got a "phenomenal response," greatly surpassing its funding goal of $1,889.

 

Photos posted on Dexter's Kickstarter page showed the BrickPi being configured as a tank, robot arm, ball cannon, or even a rover.

 

Users can connect up to three NXT motors and four sensors to the robot, which has a 9-volt battery as a power source. — TJD, GMA News
