Microsoft stakes claim to 'XBox One' domain names

This early, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops against parties that use the name of its newly announced next-generation Xbox One console.

Microsoft has lodged a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum over the domain names XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net, tech site Fusible.com reported.

"XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net are registered to a resident of the United Kingdom," Fusible.com said.

It said both domains are presently parked at GoDaddy, though XboxOne.com used to be a website offering Xbox-related news.

Before filing the complaint, Microsoft had taken pains to keep the new console's name a secret and did not register "Xbox One" domains lest it tip people off.

Fusible.com also noted Microsoft had been successful in domain-name disputes in the past, with domains such as XboxSmartglass.com, XboxPhone.com and XboxFitness.com ordered transferred to it.

"In 2012, Microsoft took ownership of several names such as XboxMusic.com, XboxSports.com, and XboxVideo.com just to name a few," it added. — TJD, GMA News
