X-Men: Days of Future Past official trailer goes live

The future of mutantkind has arrived, and it doesn’t look friendly.

The first official trailer for the much-anticipated film X-Men: Days of Future Past has found its way to the X-Men Movies channel on YouTube, and has been viewed almost 5 million times within just a day of its release.

The trailer features the return of fan favorites such as Storm, Colossus, Shadowcat, and Rogue, as well as the introduction of other popular mutants from the comics, like Blink and Bishop.

Newsarama reports that the trailer was originally shown last July at the San Diego Comic Con.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on the well-known story by comics scribe Chris Claremont and artists John Byrne and Terry Austin. In the film adaptation, the X-Man known as Wolverine is sent back to the past in order to prevent a dystopian future. The feral mutant arrives in the 1970s, aiming to warn the younger versions of opposing mutant leaders Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto about a terrible future ruled by anti-mutant prejudice and enforced by ruthless mutant-annihilating machines known as Sentinels.

Directed by Bryan Singer and scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen. — TJD, GMA News
