Is this the iPod killer? Sony unveils ZX2 Walkman

Sony has long been known for its Walkman brand, which stood head and shoulders above its competitors in the mobile music market until the Apple iPod came around in 2001.

But now it looks like Sony is wresting back its crown, with the new Walkman ZX2 unveiled at CES.

The ZX2 has a matte black casing and playback buttons embedded into the side. It comes with 128 GB of internal storage which can be expanded by a microSD. Supported file formats include DSD, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless.

The OS runs Android’s 4.2 Jelly Bean which lets you download apps from Google Play. The ZX2 also has Bluetooth capabilities and NFC (near field communication) which allows it to connect to speakers and headphones.

According to tech site The Verge, the ZX2 is priced at USD 1,119.99 and is slated to be released later this year. — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
