House OKs bill to require SIM card registration

The House of Representatives has passed a bill reuiring all individuals to register before buying a SIM card for mobile phones, a report on GMA's “24 Oras” said Saturday.


 

According to the report, the bill requires buyers of SIM cards to present an identification card and fill out a registration form with a control number.

 

These documents will then be passed to the National Telecommunications Commission for recording purposes.

 

The bill also allows telecommunications companies to deactivate SIM cards that are not registered in the new system.
