Duterte makes crime fighting debut in mobile game

Davao City Mayor and now incoming president Rodrigo Duterte’s pledge to eradicate criminality in the first six months of his presidency is the inspiration for a new mobile game.

The Duterte Fighting Crime is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up that lets players unleash Duterte versus criminals on the street.

Players can choose from a variety of weapons, but must also collect badges as they complete missions to progress in the game.

Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao also makes a brief cameo in the game: she appears on the Game Over screen riding a Wrecking Ball à la Miley Cyrus.

Game developer Anjo Pascual said his team went so far as to use sound clips of actual Duterte quotes.

“Siya po kasi ‘yung pinaka-cool sa lahat ng kumakandidato tsaka astigin ‘yung personality niya kaya in-apply namin sa game, nilagyan namin ng voice over niya, ‘yung mga linya niya. Kaya ‘yon naging patok naman, nagustuhan ng mga tao,” Pascual said.

Pascual added that they are currently developing an update to the game, with a boss fight with a character inspired by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV—one of Duterte's most recent and staunchest critics.
