The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has established 1,258 eCenters in 2017 under the Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs and Economic Development (Tech4ED) Project, up 163 percent from 2016, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said on Saturday.

In a statement, Roque said the DICT's Tech4ED project has seen the launch of 1,258 centers last year, higher than the 774 centers established in the prior year.

"The Tech4ED eCenter acts as delivery channel for critical e-government and ICT-enabled services in communities with minimal or no access to information and government services," Roque said.

To date, there are 2,121 Tech4ED eCenters, established in schools, public libraries, local government units (LGU), non-government organization and national government agencies, operating nationwide to bring government and information and communications technology services to the public.

Of this figure, 601 centers are established in local government units, 156 in public libraries, 1,222 in schools, 106 in non-government agencies, 32 in private institutions, and 4 in non-government organizations. — Ted Cordero/MDM, GMA News
