PAGASA: LPA nears Northern Mindanao

A low-pressure area moved closer to Eastern Mindanao before noon Tuesday, with state weather forecasters saying it may intensifying into a cyclone.

In a radio interview, PAGASA forecaster Bernie de Leon said the LPA continues to gain strength as it is still at sea.

"Mino-monitor natin ito dahil posible ito maging ganap na bagyo ... Since sa dagat siya, mataas ang chance maging bagyo," De Leon said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Should the LPA become a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed Odette.

Rain, thunderstorms

PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory said that as of 10 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 1,080 km east of Northern Mindanao.

"This weather system will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorm(s) over Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao," it said. — RSJ, GMA News
