PAGASA: Rain forecast during INC mission; Typhoon Wipha to enter PAR at noon

(Updated 6:04 a.m.) Filipinos availing of the Iglesia Ni Cristo's medical mission in Metro Manila on Monday may want to bring umbrellas or some protection from the rain, state weather forecasters said.

"Asahan nila magiging maaliwalas ang panahon. Pero ang chance ng ulan isolated, sa hapon o gabi," PAGASA forecaster Fernando Cada said in an interview on dzBB radio.

An exceptional number of people are expected to flock to the religious group's wide-scale medical and dental mission, prompting the suspension of classes, up to high school level, in the entire of Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Wipha moved closer to extreme northern Luzon early Monday and it is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility before noon.

But PAGASA forecasters also said that Wipha—to be codenamed Tino upon entering the PAR—was likely to exit within 24 hours.

Cada added that their models projected that Wipha would not make landfall over any part of the country.

PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said Wipha was estimated at 1,280 km east of extreme northern Luzon as of 4 a.m.

It packed maximum sustained winds of 160 kph and gustiness of up to 190 kph, and is forecast to move north-northwest at 15 kph.

Meantime, PAGASA's Monday forecast said the whole country may expect "partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms."

Moderate to strong winds from the southwest to south will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough, it said. — DVM, GMA News
