Paolo intensifies into a typhoon; scattered rain across the PHL


Tropical Cyclone Paolo (international name Lan) intensified into a typhoon early Wednesday morning, with sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and with gusts of up to 145 kph.

Weather service PAGASA reported in a 4 a.m. forecast that Paolo was 765 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 745 kms east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 3 a.m.

Paolo would bring cloudy conditions with scattered rain and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, the Visayas, Mindanao, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Aurora 

Meanwhile, a  low pressure area  260 kms west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City would also be affecting the country on Wednesday, and bring cloudy conditions with scattered rain and thunderstorms over Palawan.

The rest of Luzon would be partly cloudy to cloudy with afternoon or evening isolated rainshowers.

Winds would be moderate to  strong from the northeast over Luzon, where coastal waters would be from moderate to rough.

Over the Visayas, winds would be moderate to strong from the northeast to northwest, with surrounding seas expected to be from moderate to rough.

Finally, winds over Mindanao would be moderate to strong from the southwest, with moderate to rough coastal waters. — DVM, GMA News
