Typhoon Paolo maintains strength, direction


Typhoon Paolo has maintained its strength and continues to move north northwest over the Philippine Sea, PAGASA reported in its late Thursday evening Severe Weather Bulletin.

As of 10 p.m. on Thursday, Paolo is located at 930 kilometers east northeast of Baler, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph as it moves north northwest at 15 kph.

Paolo will be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 235 kilometers north northwest of Puerto Princesa in Palawan.

This weather system, along with the outer rainbands of Paolo and the southwesterly windflow enhanced by this Typhoon will bring scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Bicol region, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and ARMM. Residents in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, the seaboard of Palawan, the western and eastern seaboards of Visayas and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao. — BAP, GMA News
