TD Urduja maintains its strength; Palawan landfall imminent

Tropical Depression Urduja maintained its strength even as it was about to make landfall over Palawan Monday morning, weather service PAGASA reported in 5 a.m. bulletin.

At 4 a.m., Urduja was 195 kilometers east-northeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, with sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 75 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 remained raised over Palawan, the seaboards of which remained dangerous to sea travel given the open sea wave heights of 1.25 to four meters.

Northern Palawan, including the Calamian Islands, could also expect more scattered rain with accompanied flooding and landslides.

Urduja was heading west at 18 kph, and was expected to be:

  • 270 kms west of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan by Tuesday morning, and
  • 255 kms south-southwest of Pagasa Island, Palawan and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Calabarzon and Bicol Regions, Aurora, Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon would be under the influence of  a cold front's tail-end and could expect cloudy conditions with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The northeast monsoon would meanwhile bring cloudy conditions and scattered rain over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, with the rest of the country expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. — DVM, GMA News
