Urduja makes landfall over Taytay, Palawan


Tropical Depression Urduja made landfall over Taytay, Palawan on Monday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 8 a.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said that as of 7 a.m., the center of Urduja was estimated to be in the vicinity of Dumaran, Palawan packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

The tropical depression is forecast to move west at 18 kph and expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Tuesday morning and afternoon.

PAGASA said that scattered rains will continue to prevail over Palawan, adding that sea travel is not advised over its seaboards.

"Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) offices," it said.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression spotted outside the PAR which was estimated at 1,630 kilometers east of Mindanao has weakened into a low pressure area.

Despite this, PAGASA advised the public and DRRM offices to "continue monitoring for updates regarding this weather disturbance."

Other weather systems are affecting various parts of the country.

CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Aurora, Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon are experiencing the effects of a tail-end of a cold front, while the northeast monsoon prevails over Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, Allan Gatus reported on Dobol B sa News TV.

"The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions," it added.
