Lunar eclipse visible in PHL in wee hours of July 28, 2018


A total lunar eclipse will be visible in the Philippines in the wee hours of Saturday, July, 28, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has said.

According to PAGASA, the eclipse will occur from 1:13 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. 

In Manila, the Moon will rise at 6:05 p.m. on Friday, July 27, and will set at 5:44 a.m on Saturday, July 28.

The lunar eclipse is expected to develops as follows:

  • Penumbral eclipse begins: 1:13 a.m. 
  • Partial eclipse begins: 2:24 a.m. 
  • Greatest eclipse: 4:21 a.m. 
  • Partial eclipse ends: 6:19 a.m. (no longer observable)
  • Penumbral eclipse ends: 7:30 a.m. (no longer observable)

Observers may use a pair of binoculars to magnify the view and make the red coloration of the moon brighter.
