MONSOON ENHANCED BY TS YAGI

Moderate to heavy rain expected over Luzon areas – PAGASA

Weather service PAGASA reported in a 4 a.m. forecast that Tropical Storm Yagi (formerly Tropical Storm Karding) would continue to enhance the southwest monsoon on Sunday.

TS Yagi was 625 kilometers north-northeast of extreme northern Luzon and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Yagi had 75 kilometer per hour sustained winds which could gust up 90 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 25 kph.

Given the enhanced nature of the southwest monsoon, moderate to occasional heavy rain could be expected over Metro Manila, the Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the Calabarzon and Mimaropa Regions.

The southwest monsoon would also be responsible for the cloudy conditions with scattered rain and thunderstorms over the Western Visayas and the rest of  Luzon.

Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas could meanwhile expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions accompanied with isolated rainshowers.

Winds would be strong to gale force from the southwest over the western section  of Luzon, where coastal waters would be rough to very rough.

Over the Visayas and the rest of Luzon, winds would be moderate to strong from the southwest to west with surrounding waters expected to be from moderate to rough.

Winds over Mindanao would be moderate to occasionally strong from the southwest with moderate to occasionally rough coastal waters.

PAGASA also reported that there was another tropical storm, this one with the international name Leepi, 2,230 kms east of extreme northern Luzon - also outside the PAR.

Leepi had 80 kph sustained winds which could gust up to 95 kph, and was moving north at 15 kph. — DVM, GMA News
