INCLEMENT WEATHER DUE TO MONSOON

Moderate to heavy rain expected over Luzon areas – PAGASA

Weather service PAGASA reported in a Monday morning forecast that Luzon would still be under the influence of the Tropical Storm Yagi-enhanced southwest monsoon, and could thus expect inclement conditions throughout the day.

TS Yagi (formerly Tropical Storm Karding) itself was 960 kilometers north of extreme northern Luzon, and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Yagi had 75 kilometer per hour sustained winds which could gust up to 120 kph, and was moving northwest at 35 kph.

With Yagi enhancing the monsoon, moderate to occasional heavy rain could be expected over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, the Calabarzon Region, and the Mindoro provinces; with scattered rain and thunderstorms predicted for the rest of Luzon.

Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao could expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rainshowers.

Winds would be strong to gale force from the southwest over Luzon, where coastal waters would be rough to very rough.

Over the rest of the country, winds would be moderate to strong from the southwest with moderate to rough conditions over surrounding seas.

PAGASA also reported that another tropical storm, Leepi, was outside the PAR, 1,965 kms east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon.

Leepi had 80 kph sustained winds which gusted 95 kph, and was moving northwest at 20 kph. — DVM, GMA News
