Scattered rain expected over the central PHL – PAGASA

Weather service PAGASA predicted in a Saturday morning forecast that the entire Visayas, as well as the Mimaropa, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga Regions, would be under the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

These areas could thus expect expect cloudy conditions accompanied with afternoon or evening scattered light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country would meanwhile be generally fair except for some isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Sea conditions over the eastern coastlines of the country would be from moderate to rough, while sea conditions over the rest of the country's coasts would be from slight to moderate.

PAGASA also reported that the tropical depression to the east of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) had accelerated and was now making its way west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.

On Saturday morning the tropical depression was 2,015 kilometers east of southern Luzon, and had 55 kph winds which could gust up to 65 kph.

PAGASA projected that the weather system would enter the PAR Sunday afternoon, after which it would be known locally as "Paeng".

Paeng was expected to linger within the PAR for several days, during which it would likely gain strength and intensify into a severe tropical storm, or even a lower-limit typhoon category cyclone.

Nevertheless, the weather system was unlikely to make landfall over any part of the country. — DVM, GMA News
