Typhoon Paeng enters PAR

Typhoon Trami has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and will now be called by its local designation Paeng, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon.

In PAGASA's live briefing on 5 p.m. Sunday, meteorologist Ariel Rojas said that Paeng has no direct effect yet on the Philippines, and has not yet significantly enhnced the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

It may affect extreme northern Luzon (the Babuyan and Batanes islands) on Friday, September 28, but is currently not expected to make landfall. It is expected to exit PAR on Saturday.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA spotted Paeng at 1,315 kilometers of east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan packing maximum sustained winds of 125 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 155 kilometers per hour.

Paeng is moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour.

According to the state weather bureau, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms which may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
