Paeng slightly intensifies; Habagat to bring rains over Luzon, Visayas on Thursday

Typhoon Paeng (international name: Trami) has slightly intensified as it continues to move west northwest, state weather agency PAGASA said on Monday.

"From 170 kilometers per hour na maximum sustained winds, nag-intensify pa ito at umabot na ng 185 kilometers per hour," weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said in a press briefing.

Bulquerin said Paeng would accelerate starting September 27, adding that the southwest monsoon will also bring rains over Luzon and Visayas.

"Ngayong 24 to 26, medyo aasahan natin na babagal 'yung kilos nito, pero pagdating ng 27 to 28... doon po siya bibilis ulit. Sa pagdating ng 27, 'yung southwest monsoon natin magdadala ito ng light to moderate at times heavy na pag-ulan sa western section ng Luzon at Visayas kasama na po 'yung Metro Manila," Bulquerin said.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA spotted Paeng at 905 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 225 kilometers per hour.

Paeng is moving in the west northwest direction at 20 kilometers per hour, PAGASA added.

PAGASA, meanwhile, said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers would be experienced in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned of possible floods and landslides due to the localized thunderstorms. — BAP, GMA News
