LPA trough continues to bring rains to Visayas, Mindanao

Rainy weather is expected to prevail over the Visayas and Mindanao regions due to the effects of a low pressure area (LPA) to the east of Mindanao, PAGASA said on Tuesday afternoon.

According to an evening weather update on " 24 Oras" on Tuesday, the LPA could develop into a tropical storm later in the week.

GMA News' resident analyst Nathaniel Cruz cited data from Metra Weather which indicate that the storm could affect Southern Palawan by Thursday afternoon.

As of Tuesday at 3 p.m., the LPA was spotted 195 kilometers east-northeast of Davao City, Davao del Sur.

PAGASA's afternoon forecast said the LPA's trough is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.

The rest of Visayas can also expect isolated rainshowers brought by localized thunderstorms.

Luzon, on the other hand, could experience isolated right rains due to the northeast monsoon.

PAGASA said coastal waters across the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao would be moderate to strong, with light to moderate sea conditions expected off the rest of Mindanao. — Margaret Claire Layug/ LDF, GMA News
