Tropical depression spotted east of Mindanao

The low pressure area (LPA) that has been bringing rains to Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsility (PAR) on Friday, but PAGASA is monitoring another weather system that could enter PAR by Sunday.

According to a "24 Oras" weather report on Thursday evening, the tropical depression was spotted 2,495 kilometers east of Mindanao, but had no direct effect on the county.

The tropical depression could enter PAR as "Samuel" by Sunday, based on data from Metra Weather.

The LPA, on the other hand, was spotted 220 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa City and is expected to continue bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.

PAGASA's forecast said the Ilocos region, CAR and Cagayan Valley may also experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon. —Margaret Claire Layug/ LDF, GMA News
