Signal No. 1 still up in 28 provinces as Samuel nears Leyte Gulf


Tropical Depression Samuel has maintained its strength as it approaches the Leyte Gulf area.

In PAGASA's 5 p.m. weather bulletin, Signal No. 1 is still raised in some areas across the country:

Luzon

At 4 p.m. the center of Samuel was located 250 km east of Maasin, Southern Leyte or 165 km east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Samuel has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 65 kph.

It is moving toward the west-northwest direction with a speed of 20 kph and is expected to make landfall in the area between the southern portion of Eastern Samar and Dinagat Islands on Tuesday evening.

PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides may be triggered by the moderate to heavy rains in Visayas, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao island. — MDM, GMA News
