Typhoon expected inside PAR over the weekend, to be called Tomas

Tropical Depression Samuel may have left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but PAGASA is monitoring a more powerful weather disturbance that continues to approach the country.

According to a weather report on GMA News TV’s “Balitanghali,” Typhoon Man-yi is expected to enter PAR by Saturday and will be called Tomas.

PAGASA said Man-yi is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines even as the weather bureau has yet to monitor any direct effect on the weather.

It was last spotted 1,255 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds moving 145 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 180 kph.

It was forecast to move in a northwestward direction at 25 kph. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
