Pia Guanio leaving 24 Oras showbiz segment

Kapuso host Pia Guanio on Friday announced that she will be leaving GMA News' 24 Oras newscast.

In a series of tweets, Guanio, who has been hosting Chika Minute, the showbiz segment of the primetime newscast, for 11 years, said, "I've decided to say good bye tonight."

"I'm doing this to be able to spend more time with Steeve and especially Scarlet," she said, referring to her husband Steve Mago and their two-year-old daughter.

In her tweets, Guanio said she still can be seen on the noontime show "Eat Bulaga" and at "Homebase" on GMA News TV.

She thanked viewers for "making Chika Minute so much a part of your daily news habit."

In a statement, GMA Network thanked Guanio for her contributions to make 24 Oras "the leading and most credible newscast in the country today."

It said that aside from showbiz news, the Kapuso host "has also advocated for healthy living and animal rights and produced stories and news features on these."

GMA Network said it "understands the importance of family and is fully behind Pia's decision to move forward."

"Pia has been with 24 Oras since it launched in 2004, carving a niche in entertainment news with her fun and classy news delivery," it said. "With Pia's help, Chika Minute has etched itself in the consciousness of Pinoy pop culture, with the trademark voice of Pia signalling the start of showbiz news." —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KG, GMA News
