What Mikael Daez and Megan Young discovered in the Maldives

What makes Kapuso  stars Megan Young and Mikael Daez fit perfectly as a couple is their shared thirst for adventure. Despite their busy work schedule they satisfy this desire by seeking new places to explore.

Mikael shared a series of vlogs on his YouTube channel about his recent Maldives trip with girlfriend Megan, discovering the tropical nation's beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs.

Here's a rundown of their discoveries in Maldives:

The Unknown Side of Maldives

On the first vlog post, Mikael shared a couple of "unknown" things about Male or the capital city of Maldives: how the narrow streets cause both vehicular and pedestrian traffic as people try to walk on the absent sidewalks. talk about chasing pavements!

In the video, we learn that Maldivians usually have Huli Mas or Fish Curry for breakfast. The couple had theirs in Cafe Ten Thousand, a hole in the wall resto they spotted on one of Male's crowded streets.

Instead of showcasing everybody's idea of what Maldives has to offer — a secluded island with crystal clear blue waters, white sands and a beach bench in which to lounge around— the couple focused on the local lifestyle and culture instead.

Lazy Day on Maafushi Island

They sailed to a local island called Maafushi, 35 minutes away from the capital, where most Maldivians reside. According to Mikael, things are cheaper and more exciting in this place, which opens up more affordable travel opportunities for tourists.

They also tried a Maldivian version of the Pinoy's popular cold treat ice candy, which they call "juice petty."

Other foods they have tried in Maafushi are egg curry, tom yum soup and chapati...it's in the Indian Ocean after all so, ta-dah!, Indian food!

The lovebirds said the small island reminds them of the Philippines' Boracay Island 20 years ago when everything was still quiet and beautiful and unspoiled.

"This island is so small you can literally see the other end," Mikael said on the video.

The glossy side of the Maldives

Of course, no Maldives story is complete without testing and diving into the clear blue waters.

On their way to the diving area, Mikael couldn't help but express how much he appreciated the beautiful paradise. "It's like an oasis in the sea," he said.

"This is what I have been waiting for, beautiful island in the middle of absolutely frickin' nowhere," Mikael said on the video

They swam in the waters, watched the dolphins, played with Mikael's skimboard and made friends with their fellow tourists.

Although Philippines has tons of beaches with crystal clear and blue waters, he said what the Maldives had to offer was a different kind of magnificent.

"The color of the water is extremely blue. Surprisingly a different kind of blue compared to what we see here in the Philippines," Mikael compared. —Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA/KVD,  GMA News
