Filipino folk singer Fred Panopio dies at 71


Popular Filipino folk singer Fred Panopio, died on Thursday, a television report said Friday. He was 71. GMA Network's Flash Report quoted the veteran singer's niece Joy Esguerra Panopio as saying that her uncle "died of cardiac arrest" past 3 p.m.


Panopio's remains now lie at the Green Park in Pasig City. The late singer became popular in the 1960s. Among his greatest hits are Pitong Gatang, Markado and Tatlong Baraha. Panopio's death came less than two weeks after veteran comedian Palito passed away on April 12. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
