Former E-head Buendia in ICU after heart attack

(Update): Ely Buendia, lead singer-guitarist of the band Pupil, suffered a heart attack while performing in a concert on Saturday with his group in Laguna, Pia Guanio reported in the "Chika Minute" segment of Monday's 24 Oras. Buendia was reportedly in the middle of a song when he felt a sudden pain in his chest and left arm. He was rushed to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center where he is, as of posting time, still in an intensive care unit. In a later interview aired over GTMA's Saksi, Buendia's wife Dianne said the bandleader had already complained about finding it a bit hard to breathe while they were on the way to the gig. But he dismissed it as mere heartburn. After a few songs, however, Buendia had to stop because of chest pains. His wife said doctors were still trying to find out what could have caused the heart attack as Buendia wasn't smoker and drinker. Buendia, who turned 36 last November 2, became popular as composer and lead singer of the Eraserheads back in the 1990s. The other members of the group were Raimund Marasigan on drums, Marcus Adoro on lead guitar, and Buddy Zabala on bass. The E-heads, as they were also known, had several hits, among them "Pare Ko" and "Ang Huling El Bimbo." Shortly before the Eraserheads disbanded, Buendia recorded a 10-song solo album, Wanted: Bedspacer. Then he formed the short-lived band The Mongols, before forming Pupil, which broke into the music scene with the hit song "Nasaan Ka?" - GMANews.TV
