Danica Sotto finds Marc Pingris's long-lost father

If you want to find a missing person, you'd probably be wise to go see Danica Sotto. After all, the actress did find the long-lost father of fiance Marc Pingris, forward of the Purefoods Chunkee Giants. And she had good timing too. Pingris's father, Jean Marc Pingris, who's French, gave his cager son a phone call, shortly before big game last Sunday, January 14. It was the first match in the Chunkee Giants' best-of-five quarterfiinal showdown against Talk 'N' Text in the PBA Philippine Cup. The Giants won, 92-84, with an inspired Pingris making 19 points, 17 rebounds, and five blocks. "It was an easy game for me because I didn’t need to motivate my players. Super motivated sila, specially Marc Pingris. He played an inspired game because after 25 years, he got a call from his long-lost father (a Frenchman)," Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio was quoted as saying in an article posted at the PBA website — "Inspirred Pingris powers Purefoods over TNT." "As I gathered, it was worked on by Danica Sotto," Gregorio added. And Pingris himself thanked his fiancee in an interview after the game. In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Sotto related how she went about looking for her fiance's father, who left Marc and his wife when Marc was still a baby. "Kasi dati nung friends pa lang kami ay parang lagi siyang galit," Danica said. "Kapag kunwari galit ka, madadala mo ‘yan hanggang pagtanda mo kung hindi ka matutong mag-forgive." Sotto used the Internet and old letters lent by Marc's mother. Then one day, while Marc was in practice, she went to the French Embassy with Marc's mother. "Kinuha [namin] lahat ng documents ni Marc, kasama na doon ang mga importanteng documents ng father niya para may proof talaga," she said. "After that, dinala naman sa Switzerland yung documents kasi may tita ako doon. Yung tita ang nagdala sa embassy doon." "So, naghintay na lang ng go signal niya [father of Marc] dahil mga personal na mga bagay ‘yon," Sotto went on. "Hindi agad pinapayagan na makakuha ng info although yung embassy ay di rin alam kung nasaan siya. So sinabi, magpadala na lang ng sulat sa uncle ni Marc, si Luis Pingris, na kapatid ng tatay niya." "So we wrote a letter na ang nakalagay ay gusto ko lang malaman if he is still alive. Wala akong pakialam kung tanggapin siya [Marc] o hindi. I just want closure para maging buo ang pagkatao niya. Kasi hindi siya buo, di ba? Forever ‘yang may pagtatanong, forever ‘yang may feeling of rejection," Sotto said. "So, ‘yon nga, sumulat kami sa uncle ni Marc. We were surprised, siguro through prayers na rin, na ang letter na bumalik after three months ay from his father." It took her nine months to find the elder Pingris.
