PEP: ABS-CBN appeals DTI's Wowowee decision

ABS-CBN appeals on the decision made by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) about the alleged anomaly on the defunct "Wilyonaryo" segment of Wowowee. The ABS-CBN noontime show is being hosted by Willie Revillame. ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio sent a short text message to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) when we asked for their side of the story earlier today, October 14. The text message read, "We disagree with the findings and have appealed the decision." The government bureau released yesterday, October 13, the result of their investigation about the alleged anomaly on the "Wilyonaryo" segment of Wowowee. In the said decision, the DTI found that the segment of the noontime show have violated the Republic Act 7394 or the Consumers Act of the Philippines. The decision read: "A reasonable assessment of the existing game mechanics and procedures implemented at the time of the subject 20 August 2007 'Wilyonaryo' episode reveals that the game show segment allowed a reasonable likelihood of error and provided the host and organizers significant latitude in controlling the outcome of the contest." With this decision, the DTI ordered ABS-CBN to pay the P290,000 fine and come up with an execution of written undertaking. - Philippine Entertainment Portal
