NBA: Jazz's Evans wins Slam Dunk Contest but many left disappointed

Despite a change in the Slam Dunk Contest format that allowed fans to decide on the winner, many were disappointed in this year's offerings and took to Twitter to express their displeasure. Reserve forward Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz, a late replacement for injured New York Knick Iman Shumpert, won the affair with 29 percent of three million votes. He bested a field of Houston Rocket Chase Budinger, Indiana Pacer Paul George, and Minnesota Timberwolf Derrick Williams. Evans' first offering was a "first-person point of view dunk," accomplished by strapping a camera on his head. His last saw him don a Karl Malone jersey and dunk over comedian Kevin Hart. The highlight though was his second dunk, which saw him flush two balls down the hoop off lobs by a seated Gordon Hayward. Other bright spots included Budinger's homage to Cedric Ceballos, dunking blindfolded, a glow-in-the-dark slam by George with the lights out, and a Ricky Rubio-assisted off-the-side 360 flush by Williams. The NBA shortened what used to be a two-round affair that cut the field from four dunkers to two and instead had all four attempt three dunks each. The league also removed the panel of judges that scored the foursome and sent two to the Finals, instead having the audience vote after everyone had completed one dunk. But despite the tweaks, many were left unsatisfied by Saturday's proceedings.
