NBA: Knicks guard Baron Davis shreds knee, out one year
The New York Knicks announced Monday (Tuesday, PHL time) that an MRI exam on Baron Davis revealed a “partial tear of the patella tendon and complete tears of the ACL and MCL” on his right knee, robbing the point guard of a full year. The Knicks confirmed the news on the team’s Twitter site, and added that Davis will undergo surgery later in the week.

The injury happened in the third quarter of the Knicks’ 89-87 win over the Miami Heat, Sunday (Monday, PHL time), when Davis suddenly collapsed due to his knee buckling without contact from another player. It is just the latest injury setback to the Knicks, who also lost rookie guard Iman Shumpert in Game One of their playoff series to a similar injury, a tear of his ACL and meniscus in the left knee. After the Knicks’ Game Two loss in Miami, power forward Amare Stoudemire suffered a hand injury after punching the glass enclosure of a fire extinguisher in the locker room. He missed Game Three of the series and played Game Four with a heavily bandaged hand. The team is hoping that Jeremy Lin, the Taiwanese-American point guard who sparked “Linsanity” before a knee injury early in the month of April, can make a storybook-like return in game five, Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time) in Miami.Baron Davis will have surgery later this week and recovery time is approx. 12 months. #Knicks — NBA New York Knicks (@nyknicks) May 7, 2012
