PBA: Best Player of the Conference award means nothing to Tropang Texters - Chot Reyes

With two of his former Talk 'N Text players in the top five of the statical points standings for the Best Player of the Conference award, many have asked Chot Reyes whom his pick would be for the plume. His answer though, via Twitter? It "really doesn't matter" to the Tropang Texters.
"If ul notice, very few TNT players win BPC. Why? Coz they dnt care about indiv stats. Only thing they care for is BTC - Best TEAM of Conf," Reyes added.
His reply drew affirmatives from Kelly Williams and Jared Dillinger, both of whom tweeted to him, "Never matters."
Reyes, who's now head of the Philippine national team, added, "To name 1 as best means hes above d rest & no 1s above TEAM."

Jayson Castro is currently fourth in statistical points with a 29.6 average, while Ranidel De Ocampo is fifth at 27.8. Topping the list is Arwind Santos, at 35.1, while rookie Calvin Abueva and Sol Mercado round off the top five with 31.0 and 30.3, respectively.

Talk 'N Text actually has four representatives in the top 10, with Kelly Williams at ninth, and Larry Fonacier at tenth. [Related: Black's new system has TNT on the brink of a championship - Chot Reyes]

However, it is the squad's focus on the team being greater than the sum of its parts that has pushed the Texters to great success. Under Reyes, the team copped four championships in six Finals appearances, over 12 conferences.

The team is now shooting for a sweep of their Philippine Cup Finals series under new coach Norman Black. Winning this conference would give them the Perpetual Trophy for their three successive Philippine Cup titles. - AMD, GMA News
