PBA: Castro earns first Best Player of the Conference award

Jayson Castro's stellar play has finally been rewarded. 
 
The former third overall pick earned his first Best Player of the Conference award in a short ceremony prior to game four of the on-going Philippine Cup Finals, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. 
 
The Philippine Christian University alum normed 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 0.6 steals for the league-leading Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, heading into their Finals clash against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, for an average of 29.6 statistical points over 20 games. 
Castro, nicknamed "The Blur" for his speedy drives on the court provided much of the offensive punch for his team, which is on the brink of a sweep of the Finals, up 3-0 prior to the night's game. 
 
The breakdown of criteria for the Best Player of the Conference plume involves 40 percent statistical points, 30 percent media votes, 25 percent players votes and five percent PBA commissioner's office vote. 
 
Castro got a total of 1,146 with 385 points from statistics, 482 points from media votes, 129 points from players' votes, and 150 points from the commissioner's office. Far behind were Ranidel De Ocampo with 730 points, Calvin Abueva with 612, Arwind Santos with 520, and Sol Mercado with 437. - AMD, GMA News
