PBA: Ginebra gets first overall pick in the 2013 PBA Draft

(Updated 9:24pm) Barangay Ginebra will get the first overall pick in the 2013 PBA Draft, following the results of the draft lottery, conducted Friday at the MOA Arena, during the halftime intermission of game one of the 2013 PBA Governors' Cup Finals between the San Mig Coffee Mixers and the Petron Blaze Boosters.

The lottery was originally between the GlobalPort Batang Pier and the Air21 Express, but both teams had dealt those selections away in prior deals, with GlobalPort owing their pick to San Mig Coffee, while Air21 had to convey their choice to Ginebra.

Air21 had a 2-in-3 chance of winning the lottery, compared to just a 1-in-3 shot by GlobalPort.

Ginebra will likely pick between two centers, 6'7" San Sebastian Stag Ian Sangalang and 7'0" Ateneo Blue Eagle Greg Slaughter. The last time Ginebra had the first overall pick was in 1996 when the team drafted Marlou Aquino.

Prior to the start of the 2012-13 Philippine Cup, Air21 dealt Elmer Espiritu and their 2013 pick to Ginebra, in exchange for John Wilson and KG Canaleta. Similarly, San Mig Coffee gave up point guard Josh Urbiztondo to the Barako Bull Energy Cola, which gave them in exchange the GlobalPort pick, acquired in a previous deal involving JR Quiñahan.

The draft is set for November 3. - AMD, GMA News
