Fil-Am Lakers rookie Jordan Clarkson raring to represent Philippines in NBA

Jordan Clarkson was officially introduced as a Los Angeles Laker Monday (Tuesday, PHL time), and the Filipino-American guard is excited to represent the Philippines as he dons the purple and gold.

“It’s a great feeling; I’ve got the country behind me," said Clarkson in an interview with lakersnation.com. "It feels great. That’s also driving me too, just being one of the first. I’m just trying to make a mark here and find a significant role.”

Clarkson was the 46th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Lakers picked up the 22-year-old from the Washington Wizards for $2 million.

The San Antonio native is also looking forward to playing with Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

“I heard a lot about Kobe and how he is but he’s a winner. Being able to watch him and learn from him will be a great opportunity," Clarkson added. "I just heard he’s really intense. But he’s a winner. He’s proven that. So you just gotta follow in his footsteps.”

In college, the six-foot-five combo guard played his fist two years in Tulsa before transferring to Missouri where he averaged 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and a steal in 35 games played.

“I’m a point guard, but I can also play the two because of my size and my ability to score. I’m very versatile on the floor.” - RAF, GMA News
