PBA COMMISSIONER'S CUP

TNT taps David Simon as banned Johnson's replacement

Tropang TNT has tapped veteran journeyman David Simon to replace Ivan Johnson as their import for the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Team manager Virgil Villavicencio said the 33-year-old Simon will be arriving on Monday, in time for TNT's Wednesday game against Alaska.

Johnson, who was banned for the season after cursing PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa in the TNT-Meralco game, is set to leave the country on Saturday.

Simon will be hard-pressed to match Johnson's record, as the former NBA reinforcement led the Texters to the championship last season.

He averaged 20.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in his latest stop with the Seoul SK Knights in the Korean Basketball League.

After going undrafted in the 2005 NBA draft, Simon played professionally in Bulgaria, Russia, France, Serbia, and Kazakhstan.

TNT currently holds a 1-2 record after going import-less and losing against GlobalPort on Friday night. — APG, GMA News
