Fajardo, Cabagnot score 24 apiece as Beermen defeat Phoenix Fuel Masters

The San Miguel Beermen delivered when it mattered most, squeezing past the Phoenix Fuelmasters, 109-107, to create a three-way tie for third place in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.

June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot scored 24 points each while also combining for 30 rebounds. Import Terrence Watson, meanwhile, scored 26 and grabbed 11 boards.

The two teams were tied heading into the final 2:25, but back-to-back hits by Watson pushed the Beermen ahead, 104-100.

Off a timeout, Phoenix came up empty from deep in the next two possessions, before Arwind Santos completed a steal forcing the Fuel Masters to foul and stop the clock.

Charities from Cabagnot and Fajardo then put the game away.

Brandon Brown paced Phoenix with 30 points and 17 rebounds, while Jeff Chan had 18. JC Intal was the only other Phoenix player in double figures with 12.

The Beermen now sit at 7-3 along with TNT and NLEX, while Ginebra is still on top with an 8-2 record. Meralco is in second place (7-2). — RSJ, GMA News
