The GlobalPort Batang Pier found an unlikely hero in Nico Elorde, as the point guard tallied 17 points with seven rebounds and seven assists to give his team a 99-84 win against the TNT KaTropa on Wednesday.

Stanley Pringle added 16 points and 10 rebounds for GlobalPort, while Bradwyn Guinto and Yousef Taha combined for 23 points and 13 boards off the bench.

Kelly Nabong and Jonathan Grey rounded up the Batang Pier players in double figures with 10 points each.

GlobalPort blitzed TNT in the opening period, dictating the tempo for a 34-12 advantage.

TNT patiently tried to chip away at the lead through the next two quarters, leaning on a 28-18 swing in the third to trim the deficit to 15, 79-64.

The Batang Pier, however, tried to finish off TNT early in the fourth, stretching the lead to 20 at the 7:00 mark, 90-70.

Roger Pogoy and Jayson Castro attempted to lead the KaTropa with a late charge, cutting the lead to just 10 with 2:37 to go, 94-84.

A Mo Tautuaa offensive foul was followed by an Anthony Semerad miss from deep, allowing GlobalPort’s Jonathan Grey and Nico Elorde to string five straight points to put the game away.

TNT was held scoreless in the final 2:37 of the game, with its last basket coming off the Jayson Castro conversion from beyond the arc.

Jayson Castro led TNT with 24 points, while Kelly Williams scored 21 points with 12 boards. RR Pogoy and Harvey Carey provided support off the bench, combining for 24. — BAP, GMA News
