Late surge lifts Columbian past Phoenix

The Columbian Dyip saved their best for the frame, scoring 42 big points in the last 12 minutes to defeat the Phoenix Fuelmasters, 115-107.

John Fields led Columbian with 29 points and 26 rebounds, while Glenn Khobuntin had 18 points to lead the locals. Jerramy King and Ronald Tubid scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, to round up the starters in double figures. Rashawn McCarthy and Eric Camson, meanwhile, led the bench with a combined 28 points.

Columbian played catch-up in the first three quarters, going down by as many as 14 in the first half. The Dyip tried to chip away at the lead in the second half, cutting the lead to five before surging ahead at the start of the final canto.

A 6-0 run to start the fourth put Columbian ahead, 70-75, before another 8-2 spurt midway put the Dyip on top by eight. Phoenix found themselves down by seven entering the final two minutes, but enough makes from Columbian staved off any form of a comeback for the Fuelmasters.

Eugene Phelps had 34 points and 22 rebounds for Phoenix, as Matthew Wright accounted for a bulk of the bench production with 32. Jason Perkins was the only other local in double figures with 14, as none of the other Phoenix players scored more than five points. — KBK,GMA News
