Pringle powers GlobalPort past San Miguel

Fresh off his FIBA stint this weekend, Stanley Pringle scored 22 points, including a key steal and layup in the dying seconds, as the GlobalPort Batang Pier defeated the San Miguel Beermen, 98-94.

Pringle added eight assists and six rebounds with three steals to his stats sheet, while import Malcom White scored 25 with 10 boards. Sean Anthony struggled from the field, but still managed to come up with 11 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

Tied entering the final minute, Nico Elorde hit a booming triple with 48 seconds left to shove GlobalPort ahead, 95-92. Off a timeout, Renaldo Balkman earned a trip to the line for two, cutting the lead to one.

GlobalPort called for time to set up a play, but Stanley Pringle was blocked by Balkman, giving the Beermen a chance to win the game with 26 seconds remaining.

Alex Cabagnot was sent in for the final play, but the usually clutch guard lost the ball to Pringle, who completed a layup to establish another three-point lead, 97-94, with 19 seconds left. The Beermen missed their last chance to send the game into overtime when Balkman committed another turnover. Elorde tied up the loose ends with a split to put the game away.

Balkman paced the Beermen with 33 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists, but the import also committed seven turnovers. June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot tallied 20 and 19 points, respectively, while Marcio Lasssiter was limited to six points off a 2 of 11 clip. Arwind Santos also struggled for just 10 points.

With the win, Globalport improved to 4-4 to tie Magnolia at fifth place while San Miguel dropped to 3-4. — RSJ, GMA News
