Grey gets its done as GlobalPort steals one from Rain or Shine

Jonathan Grey had 22 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 11.5 seconds remaining to give the GlobalPort Batang Pier a 114-113 victory against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the quarterfinals of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday.

Malcolm White led GlobalPort with 28 points and 16 rebounds, as Stanley Pringle tallied 21 with nine rebounds and nine assists. Sean Anthony rounded up the Batang Pier players in double figures with 11.

The Batang Pier dug themselves out of an 8-point hole in the final 4:45 of the game, with Stanley Pringle and Grey cutting the lead to just two, 106-104. Malcolm White then scored on back to back baskets to negate a Chris Tiu make, but Maverick AHanmisi and Gabe Norwood countered with their own four straight for a 1112-110 Rain or Shine lead at the 1:31 mark.

Rain or Shine had plenty of chances to pull away, but Norwood and Beau Belga missed their attempts from the field, while Ahanmisi went 1 of 4 from the line. With the Elasto Painters settling for a two-point advantage, White found Grey in the corner for a triple to gain the lead and win the game.

Rain or Shine had a more balanced attack, as Reggie Johnson led the squad with 24 points. Raymond Almazan tallied 17 with 11 rebounds, while Maverick Ahanamisi and Ed Daquioag added 15 and 14 points, respectively. James Yap and Chris Tiu, meanwhile, led the bench with a combined 26 points.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday to determine who advances to the semifinals. —KBK, GMA News
