Franz Pumaren on AdU’s 2-0 start: A bonus, but it’s still early

The Adamson Soaring Falcons are off to a 2-0 start in UAAP Season 81 after defeating the UE Red Warriors, 90-76, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sean Manganti led the Falcons with 27 points, 14 of which were made during the third period. Jerick Ahanmisi, meanwhile, scored 17.

Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren said the two are already accepting their roles as leaders, being seniors of the team. "I guess they're accepting their respective roles as leaders. The young guys will follow them if they played well, the young guys will go with them. So they have to lead not only by scoring but also they should [also] lead by action," he said.

Asked about their early lead in the competition, Coach Franz said it is just a bonus. "I guess it's a bonus for us that at this stage [of the competition] we'll be in this kind of position, but it's still early. We just have to seize the moment but not to enjoy it, not to feel that we're so unbeatable. That's why we're here because we worked hard for it," he added.

Alvin Pasaol led the UE Red Warriors with 36 points, but it was not enough to lift the Recto-based squad past Adamson.

Adamson will next face the UST Growling Tigers, which will be coming off a big win against the FEU Tamaraws. "I think right now, they're pretty confident after beating FEU, and that's a testament that, like what we've mentioned, we don't look at the current standing, we don't look at the last game. We just have to prepare for it," said Pumaren.
