PBA: Blackwater stays spotless with win over NorthPort

The Blackwater Elite survived the NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday, securing a 113-111 victory at the Araneta Coliseum in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Henry Walker led Blackwater with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Mike Digregorio and Poy Erram had 19 apiece. Mac Belo tallied 13, while Nard Pinto had eight points with 13 assists and seven boards.

Back to back makes from Chris Javier stretched Blackwater’s lead to seven with 1:49 remaining, 108-101, but Sean Anthony and Stanley Pringle strung five streight to cut the lead to just three with 47 seconds remaining. Off a timeout, the Elite went to Nard Pinto, who pulled up for a triple and a six-point edge with 31 ticks to go.

It was then NorthPort’s turn to call for time, and Rashad Woods went for a quick three, 111-108. Blackwater, meanwhile, left the door open for a possible game-tying basket, as Mike Digregorio committed a turnover to give Northport possession with 19 seconds left.

Woods tried to go for another three, but his attempt failed to find the mark. Sean Anthony secured the offensive board for a Mo Tautuaa attempt from deep, but Northport again came up empty.

Poy Erram finally secured the rebound, forcing Anthony to foul Digregorio with one second remaining. Digregorio this time atoned for his earlier miscue, hitting two charities to put the game away.

Rashad Woods finished the game with 31 points and 17 rebounds but with seven miscues, while Stanley Pringle led the locals with 18 points. Sean Anthony and Nico Elorde had 13 and 12 points, respectively. — BM, GMA News
