Phelps fuels Phoenix past Magnolia

The Phoenix Fuel Masters shot a high 46 percent to defeat the Magnolia Hotshots 95-82 on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum for the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Eugene Phelps had 36 points and 20 rebounds in 44 minutes on the floor, while Matthew Wright and Justin Chua chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively. LA Revilla, Calvin Abueva, and RJ Jazul all added nine points apiece.

Romeo Travis’ make at the 1L49 mark made it a seven-point game, but four straight charities from Phelps and Matthew Wright reestablished a double digit lead with 1:35 to go.

Three straight misses from Mark Barroca and Paul Lee doomed Magnolia, letting Phoenix maintain a safe lead until the final buzzer.

Romeo Travis led Magnolia with 28 points and 19 rebounds but the import also accounted for seven turnovers. Starter Jusin Melton struggled with a 1 of 9 clip for just two points, while Paul Lee Cam off the bench for just eight markers after hitting 3 of 13.

Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang were the only other Magnolia players in double figures with 11 points each. — DVM, GMA News
