Aldin Ayo promises to have rookie Cansino ready for next year

Despite the growing unlikelihood that the UST Growling Tigers would enter the Final Four after Saturday's lose to the UP Fighting Maroons, head coach Aldin Ayo said he was still pleased with what the team had produced this season, including the performance of rookie sensation CJ Cansino.

"It was a good season. From the start, there were lots of setbacks pero lumabas naman mga pinrepare namin," Ayo said.

The multi-titled collegiate mentor chose not to linger on the day's loss, and instead looked to future with the experience the team had gained.

"I'm happy for the rookies and the holdovers also, the entire team. Nag-prepare naman kami kaso late kami nabuo. Talo talaga eh, no excuses. Dapat may ma-gain kami dito. Good experience for the rookies and for the entire team."

UP took advantage of the fact that one of UST's best player, Cansino, was not on the floor after suffering an injury during the second quarter. Cansino was stretchered out to the dugout and UP dominated the game from thereon.

Still, Ayo praised those who stepped up in Cansino's absence.

"Sinubukan ni Tobi Agustin, Josh Marcos na mag-step up. They tried their best naman eh. Sinubok din sina Renzo and Marvin. Kahit ganito yung resulta, I'm proud of them kasi they fought hard," Ayo said.

Getting ready for Season 82

With one remaining game left in their schedule, Ayo said he would not let Cansino play and, instead, would have him prepare for the next season.

"Kahit anong resulta ng MRI, 'di na namin papalaruin 'yung bata. He had a good season. Hopefully, marami siyang natutunan and we'll make sure na he'll be ready for next year."

Ayo also said that their preparation for next season would start by early December.

"For a start, makakapag-ensayo na kami nang matagal, kumpleto. We're going to take a two week-break lang tapos siguro mag-start na kami ng practice December. We're going to start early."

"Pina-practice ko na rin Team B. Excited na yung Team B. Nabisita ko na rin grassroots program namin. Everything is on the right track," Ayo shared. — DVM, GMA News
