Akhuetie still a bright spot for UP despite illness

It seems that UP's Bright Akhuetie, though still thought of as invincible, was nevertheless human after all.

Despite delivering the game-winning shot for UP Saturday, Akhuetie admitted after the game that he was not feeling well.

"During the game, they [were asking,] 'Are you okay?' I'm okay, [I'll] keep playing," the UAAP Season 81 MVP said.

"I don't want a situation [where I'll] them that I cannot do it. Their spirits will be down, they won't be able to play. I'm just there doing my job on rebounding."

Indeed, Akhuetie made 14 rebounds for the Diliman-based squad.

"It was hard for me already [as] I was trying to catch my breath, dealing with the cold, it's just too much. I can't tell them that I won't be able to play. It's gonna be really bad," he added.

He may not be feeling well, but Akhuetie stayed in the match and eventually, delivered the win for the Fighting Maroons.

"I just psyched myself, stayed there and lead these guys," he added.

For now, the Diliman big man said he would rest-up for Wednesday's rubber match.

"I should be better for that," he added. — DVM, GMA News
