Viloria: ‘I was in control throughout the fight’

  “I felt like I was in control of the fight,” the reigning WBO Flyweight champion told Howie Severino in an interview Monday morning. “I don’t think I felt like I was out of control at any point of time. Even the first two rounds which started out pretty slow for me, I felt like I just needed to set myself and get the pace… and just to feel out my opponent a lot more.   “After the first two rounds I just started to pick it up.”   Viloria’s control even manifested itself physically, as he arrived on the set of the GMA News show without looking like he had gone nine rounds in a boxing ring.   “I wasn’t hurt in the fight,” he confirmed. “The fight went really smooth.”   Having the bout at the flyweight division certainly helped Viloria, as it made him “stronger,” thanks to the extra weight which helped him his power back, he said. For his opponent though, Viloria felt Romero was “still elusive,” but at the same time, “a little bit slower,” though he took note that the “Giant Killer” was “still in great shape.”   But what is next for the “Hawaiian Punch”? Viloria is calling out Hernan “Tyson” Marquez, the reigning WBA Flyweight champion. With Marquez just 23 years old, it would make the 31-year-old Filipino a much older fighter, but Viloria is not worried at all about that.   “It will be a really great fight, the way his style is and the way my style is,” said Viloria. “The way I see it, it’s going to be fun for the crowd and the boxing fans. It’s going to be really marketable, the Mexican versus the Filipino.”   Marquez’ last victory came against Filipino Richie Mepranum in a non-title bout last March. “Tyson” knocked Mepranum down twice in that battle on route to winning a unanimous decision.   And if Viloria could have it his way, that fight would be just a few months away.   “I really want to jump back in the ring again,” he said. “August or September, it all depends….I don’t want to take long breaks.”  But first, he said, he'll finally have to go on his honeymoon, which he and his wife Erica have been putting off for more than a year.  - AMD/HS/RSJ, GMA News
