Congressman Pacquiao: Hospitals, human trafficking more important than Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao has many unmet goals, but none of them are in boxing. In an interview with HBO Sports via boxing blog badlefthook.com, Manny Pacquiao confessed that among his unaccomplished goals in life, none of them are in boxing. "Regarding unmet career goals, I have many, though not in boxing. I am very satisfied with what I have accomplished in my boxing career. Winning world titles in eight divisions and defeating great fighters like Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton have brought glory to the Philippines and the Filipino people around the world," said Pacquiao. "I still have a great many goals that remain unmet as a Congressman. The province of Sarangani, which I represent, is still without a hospital. That is not right and I cannot rest until my province gets the funds to build one. Human trafficking is an abomination and I will not rest until it ceases," said the Sarangani representative. Pacquiao also stresses that although boxing continues to keep him busy for several months a year, he sees to it that his duties in congress are not neglected. "Most of my training camps are held while Congress is in recess, though that does not mean I stop working for the people I represent. I am in daily touch with my Congressional staff by telephone and email, where I am constantly kept updated on legislation that is pending, projects I am working on and any emergencies that may pop up," Pacquiao added. The eight-division world champion has authored several bills, including the establishment of the Sarangani Provincial Hospital, the establishment of breast care centers in every Philippine region, and the prohibition of unsolicited messages from cellphone companies. On the other hand, Pacquiao has notched among the highest number of absences in the House. Former senator Rene Saguisag has even called for his resignation:  “Many are so blinded by Manny Pacquiao’s billions that we tolerate a 'non-performing liability' in the House, an institution now being disgraced by one who trivializes chamber work as only a sideline or a hobby." - Renee Fopalan/AMD/HS, GMA News
